Yahweh RYSE services youth from ages 5 to 18 with content that is suitable to the age group. Our vision for the leadership development and character formation of young people is accomplished through a commitment to the fusion of rigorous ministry and professional high-quality fine arts training. Since we began this effort in 2014, we have connected with almost 300 children, youth, and teens in grades K-12 from around Pittsburgh and surrounding underserved communities! Yahweh RYSE works with the expectation of going against the grain and breaking the traditions of growing young people in and out of the church and presenting the same Gospel in a way that reaches them right where they are. We fully understand and believe that the arts provide valuable tools for self confidence and success and we plan to leverage that for all students. It is through the full understanding of the Gospel that our students will understand Godly character as well as confidence and healthy expressions through the fine arts. The combination of the two is the perfect recipe for strong leaders that will make globally generational impact.
Our instructors, being the best in their fields, have been so committed to the students, that they have served as volunteer unpaid teachers. Their commitment to the students has allowed us as an organization to foster amazing relationships and mentorships with our future leaders to ensure trust and success for their future.
All of our students have experienced marginalization and our instructors have the cultural competency to tailor their teaching for the students’ diverse cultural backgrounds. This creates an environment that empowers students to artistically express themselves in ways that uniquely affirm their lived experience. This ultimately allows us to bring great opportunities to our students to affirm their brilliance without an indictment on their socioeconomic backgrounds or other areas of marginalization.
Yahweh RYSE is more than just an organization. It is a family of individuals who are determined to see the next generation be more than successful, but impactful. We believe in raising a generation that no longer looks to emulate what is around them, but truly aspires to be generational changers through a personal relationship with Christ and be the difference makers that change the world and build the Kingdom of God. We strive to remove the clichés of “growing up in the church” and rebuild the hunger for a genuine relationship with Christ and the discipline for the arts.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Jordan graduated from Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, OH with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. Although educated as engineer, Jordan has always exhibited her gift and passion for music. Having been involved in music at an early age, the development of her talents across musical disciplines are reflected in her ability to transcend music genre and style. As an anointed vocalist, skilled choir director, accomplished musician, and powerful songwriter, Jordan has a passion to spread God’s word using all of musical prowess. Jordan, also known as “General”, started working with the youth as a youth fine arts director in ministry. As she began creating music for the young people, and learning more about them in their personal lives, she saw a resemblance in her childhood and wanted to do something that would pour into their lives where they are and build them up for their futures. Having personally experienced the achievement gap in education between public schools in her neighborhood and the private education in suburbia, Jordan felt a passion to provide opportunities to her students that she was given simply because of a change in schooling. “Destiny doesn’t just begin in adulthood. Everything about our lives have been woven & fashioned before we were even here. It is my honest desire to see our young people reach an epiphany about their ‘why’ because of the ‘why’ of Christ & what He did for us. Confidence in that very principle and exposure to opportunities will give these young people not just a glimmer of hope, but an open doorway.”
